Take your recipe up a notch with the simple addition of fresh apple chunks and plump raisins to make this wonderful Apple Raisin Amish Friendship Bread submitted by Kitchen Friend Saskia Bau.
This is a great recipe to use the stray apple sitting around in the fruit drawer. Doubling up on the amount of cinnamon in this recipe gives it an extra kick.
Kitchen Friend Saskia Baur got creative with her add-ins: “Sift the dry ingredients together to prevent lumps in the batter, and use 1½ cups of nuts to help with the moisture from the apples. I also baked my loaves for 45 minutes instead of the recommended 60. The loaves were still beautifully moist after seven days. All my family and friends who tasted it, loved it.”

I used 2 small, peeled and cored apples that I grated with a box grater. A handful of chopped pecans but no raisins. I don’t like them. Subbed out half of the oil with applesauce and didn’t include the pudding. The bread was very moist and quite tasty.

I’ve made this twice. First following recipe ingredients as listed, using walnuts for the nuts. Second time today substituting butterscotch pudding mix for the vanilla pudding. Both were great, but the butterscotch was awesome!

Would love to try this recipe as I love the combination of apples and raisins. I would try it in the mini bundt pan if I win it in your give away. Thanks

I have a starter ready to bake this weekend. This looks like just what I was looking for to make. Can’t wait to get baking.

Is there a way to make a starter without yeast? Also Long time ago when pg with my now 21 year old I got a starter and the recipe had apples, raisins, walnuts, and a streusel topping. It was delicious but at the time it gave me severe heartburn. I don’t get HB when not pg so wish i had that recipe again. Also I don’t remember pudding in it still sounds good.

I have always made my starter with 1 cup sugar, 1 cup flour and 1 cup milk, no yeast. Always worked well for me!
